Air purifiers are especially useful in preventing respiratory illnesses and allergy attacks, while ensuring your home is free from bad odors. They are great in elimination of mold, dirt, dust mites and any other harmful allergens. However, you cannot just purchase an air purifier and expect it to perform wonders. There are things you must do to get the best of your air purifier.
Site Air Purifiers Properly
To get the best out of your air purifier, it should be placed in the right position – not too low or too high so it can be effective. The air purifier should be placed in such a way that clean air flows in a direction you would feel it best. This would be possible if you make sure that the air purifier has reasonable feet of clearance on the front, top and sides so air can circulate properly.
Use a Filter Indicator
An air purifier with a filter indicator light is invaluable! Over time, air purifiers lose their ability to purify the air and remove air contaminants as the filters get older. Filter indicators measure the performance of air purifiers, so you would know when the filter should be replaced. When the filter indicator is on, it only tells you that the air purifier is not working as it should.
Regularly Inspect your Filter System – Manually
While filter indicators are great, you cannot totally rely on them as there is a slim chance it could give a false read. It is therefore important to conduct manual checks of your filter from time to time especially if you suspect the air purifier may not be working as it should. If an air filter is working properly, you would definitely find debris, dust or hair inside, but the dirt should not be enough to clog it up. If you notice the filter is dirty, you may need to replace it. Remember too, this only works for HEPA purifiers. Carbon filters do not show outward aging signs.
Avoid Extreme Temperature Environments
Extreme temperatures can restrict the flow of air and strain an air purifier, affecting its capacity. Ensure you avoid very hot or cold temperatures to ensure your purifier functions to its full potential.
Manage Your Pets
If you have pets at home, it would be ideal to restrict them to certain areas at home or keep them outside if possible. This will minimize the presence of allergens in the home and increase the efficiency of your air purifier – and your indoor air!
